A fundraising reception for the AAO-HNSF Bobby R. Alford Endowed Research Grant is scheduled for 1:00 pm-2:00 pm today in the Katy Trail Room at the Omni Dallas Hotel. The reception is by invitation only. The grant supports innovative research in the specialty and helps facilitate the career development of young investigators.

The Bobby R. Alford Endowment aims to award a $30,000 Centralized Otolaryngology Research Efforts (CORE) grant annually. The endowment was established by friends of Bobby R. Alford, MD, to honor his lifelong contributions to the specialty.

The first AAO-HNSF Bobby R. Alford Endowed Research Grant was awarded to Nithin Adappa, MD, in July for Bitter Taste Receptor Genetics and the Sinonasal Microbiome. Dr. Adappa is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Otorhinolaryngology: Head and Neck Surgery at University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Alford is a former AAO-HNS/F President and is the Chairman of the Board of the NASA-funded National Space Biomedical Research Institute. He also is a Distinguished Service Professor at the Bobby R. Alford Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine.
