Glossary of #OTOMTG20 Program Terms

The following are terms and descriptions of various education components of the AAO-HNSF 2020 Virtual Annual Meeting & OTO Experience.

On-demand Sessions – these are pre-recorded sessions that are available at your convenience. All on-demand content is available on the Virtual Annual Meeting platform from September 13 through October 25. After that, most content will be available to registered attendees for three years in OTO Logic, the AAO-HNSF otolaryngology learning network.

Live Events with Q&A – in most cases, the presentation portion of these activities have been pre-recorded, however, all live events will offer a live Q&A with the speakers following their presentation during the timeslot noted on the schedule. If you miss these activities on the schedule, they will be available in the on-demand library of education content within 48 hours after the presentation. Once in the on-demand library, they will be available on the platform through October 25. After that, most content will be available to registered attendees for three years in OTO Logic, the AAO-HNSF otolaryngology learning network.

Education Program Formats

Expert Lectures – One-hour sessions led by recognized clinicians discussing current diagnostic approaches, therapeutic approaches, and practice management topics. Presented in both On-demand and Live Q&A formats.

Honorary Guest Lectures – One-hour pre-recorded presentation for each of the three Honorary Guest Lectures presented in 2020. Each presentation will be followed by a Live Q&A with the Guest Lecturer. The 2020 schedule includes the following Honorary Guest Lectures: John Conley, MD Lecture on Medical Ethics – Sunday, September 13, 1:00 pm (ET); H. Brian Neel, III MD, PhD Distinguished Research Lecture – Wednesday, September 15, 1:00 pm (ET); and Eugene N. Myers, MD International Lecture on Head and Neck Cancer – Sunday, October 4, 2:00 pm (ET). All three Honorary Guest Lectures will be presented via the Live Q&A format.

International Symposia – One-hour panel discussions featuring expert international panelists and involving interactive, in-depth state-of-the-art presentations. Presented in both On-demand and Live Q&A formats.

Master of Surgery Video Presentation – Short-lecture demonstration videos of key surgical procedures performed by otolaryngology-head and neck surgeons. Available as On-demand only.

Panel Presentations – One-hour sessions presented by panelists involving interactive, in-depth state-of-the-art presentations. Abstracts for Panel Presentations are available in the supplement to the September issue of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery Presented in both On-demand and Live Q&A formats.

Scientific Oral Presentations – Three-to-six-minute presentations focusing on current evidence-based research, surgical procedures, and approaches in clinical sciences and their application to patient care. Abstracts for Scientific Oral Presentations are available in the supplement to the September issue of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery. Available as On-demand only.

Scientific Posters – Three-to-six-minute presentations of these visual displays detailing the latest advancements in otolaryngology research allow viewers to appraise and assimilate scientific evidence for improved patient care practices.  Abstracts for Scientific Posters are available in the supplement to the September issue of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery. Available as On-demand only.

Simulation Presentations – One-hour education presentations with simulation tools as the core to the conception and structure of the presentation. Available as On-demand only.

OTO Experience Industry Thought Leadership Series – One-hour presentations led by key industry opinion leaders sharing new frontiers in otolaryngology from the vendors who make the tools for best patient outcomes. Whether new procedures, new tools, or repurposing existing tools and biologics for other indications, these industry experts demonstrate ways to achieve the best possible patient outcomes. Presented in both On-demand and Live Q&A formats.
